A British holidaymaker who sparked a desperate search after missing his flight home from Benidorm has been found safe in a local pub, bringing enormous relief to his family.

Geoff Cumiskey, 58, from Workington, Cumbria, was located at the Rose & Crown pub in Benidorm on Thursday evening, after friends and family had spent days trying to establish his whereabouts.

Geoff's wife, Nikki Jane, had appealed for help after he failed to board his flight home on Wednesday.

She explained that he was without his passport, luggage and money, while his mobile phone had run out of battery, leaving relatives unable to contact him.

Spotted watching football

Two British men helping with the search, Jonathan Stoner and Dolah Brown, eventually spotted Geoff at the popular Benidorm pub at around 10pm on Thursday.

The discovery brought an end to an anxious search that had attracted considerable attention online, with appeals for information shared widely among British visitors and residents in the resort.

Following his discovery, photographs showed Geoff enjoying a cup of tea with those who had helped locate him.

In a particularly unusual twist, he was also photographed posing alongside his own missing-person poster.

Family relieved after anxious wait

Geoff's wife confirmed that her husband had been found, expressing her gratitude to everyone who had shared the appeal and assisted with the search.

She said Geoff was physically well but was experiencing confusion, and that the family were relieved to know he was safe.

The family had been particularly concerned because he was alone in Benidorm without his belongings and could not be contacted.

Jonathan Stoner subsequently accompanied Geoff to the airport on Friday morning, in the hope of helping him return home.

The incident has highlighted how quickly a holiday can turn into an emergency when someone becomes separated from their belongings and family, particularly when they are unable to use their mobile phone.

For British visitors travelling to Benidorm, the episode is also a reminder of the importance of keeping emergency contact details and travel documents secure while abroad.

The Beni Post wishes Geoff and his family well following what must have been a very worrying few days.
