Fancy a Game of Benidorm? New Card Game Celebrates the Famous Resort

Benidorm has become the star of a brand-new card game - with players given the unusual task of rebuilding the city's beaches.

The new game, called ‘Benidorm a la vista’, has been created through a collaboration between local bookshop Contalles and graphic designer Malagón.

The game takes some of Benidorm's best-known landmarks, characters and seaside features and turns them into a fast-paced tabletop game designed for between one and six players.

The story behind the game is simple: Benidorm's beaches have mysteriously disappeared.

Players take on the role of holidaymakers and must rebuild their own beach using cards, with the aim of creating the sunniest stretch of sand.

A typical game lasts around 15 minutes, with players building their beach on a 4x4 grid using cards representing the sea and sand.

There are no dice involved, with strategy and the way players arrange their cards determining the outcome.

The illustrations are packed with references to Benidorm, including seagulls, crabs, mermaids, boats, sea life and other details that residents and regular visitors may recognise.

The game can also be played alone, with a character called Mildred acting as a virtual opponent.

There are different difficulty levels, making the game suitable for families as well as more experienced players.

The creators have also taken accessibility into consideration, using different colours and patterns on the beach towels shown on the cards to help people with colour vision deficiencies distinguish between them.

The game is recommended for players aged eight and over.

It has already gone on sale in Benidorm, giving tourists another unusual souvenir option to take home — one that offers a way of remembering the resort long after the holiday is over.

The creators are also planning an official presentation of Benidorm a la vista on October 16 at 6pm at Contalles bookshop, where visitors will be able to see the illustrations and try the game for themselves.

So if you thought you'd seen everything Benidorm has to offer, there's now another way to experience the resort — by rebuilding its beaches from your kitchen table.
