Benidorm Woman Faces Six Years in Jail Over Alleged Attempt to Cut Worker’s Safety Rope

A woman is due to stand trial in Alicante on Monday after allegedly cutting a safety rope securing a worker carrying out repairs high above the streets of Benidorm.
A woman accused of attempting to make a building worker fall from the 12th or 13th floor of a Benidorm apartment block is due to face trial on Monday, 28 September.
Prosecutors are seeking a six-year prison sentence for attempted homicide over the incident, which allegedly occurred while the worker was carrying out renovation work on the building’s exterior façade.
According to the prosecution’s account, the woman allegedly went onto the balcony of her home on 20 January 2021 and used a sharp object to cut one of the ropes forming part of the worker’s safety system.
The worker was suspended high above the ground while carrying out the repairs.
Worker forced to cling to ledge
Prosecutors allege that the woman was preparing to cut a second safety rope when the shouts of other workers who witnessed the incident caused her to stop.
The worker was reportedly left clinging to a ledge to prevent himself from falling from the building.
The prosecution considers the alleged actions to amount to attempted homicide and is requesting six years’ imprisonment.
The case is scheduled to be heard at 10am on Monday before Section Ten of Alicante Provincial Court.
Trial to examine the allegations
The allegations will be examined during the court hearing, where the defendant will have the opportunity to present her defence.
No conviction has been established in relation to the case, and the allegations remain matters for the court to determine.
The hearing is expected to bring renewed attention to the serious risks faced by construction and maintenance workers carrying out work at height.
