Runners will take to the streets around Benidorm's Poniente Beach this Saturday as the resort prepares to host the second edition of the Poniente Race, an 8km event expected to attract local athletes and running enthusiasts.

The race will take place on Saturday, October 17, with the start scheduled for 6pm on Paseo de Poniente, near the Poseidón hotel.

Organised by Club Atletismo Benidorm, with support from the local council and sponsorship from Hoteles Poseidón, the event forms part of the Volta a Peu de la Marina Baixa running calendar.

The route will take participants along the Poniente seafront and towards La Cala, using Avenida de Villajoyosa, Calle Oviedo and Paseo de Tamarindos before runners return to the starting point.

Competitors will complete the circuit twice to cover the full eight kilometres.

The organisers are hoping to build on the success of the inaugural event and establish the race as a regular fixture in the area's sporting calendar.

With its coastal scenery and early-evening start, the event offers a different way to experience one of Benidorm's best-known seafront areas.

The programme will also include children's races, giving younger participants an opportunity to take part in the sporting event.

Entry fees have been advertised at €10 for the standard registration and €16 for an option that includes a gift. Runners should check the official registration page for availability and any remaining entry conditions before travelling.

For residents and visitors who enjoy running, the Poniente Race offers an opportunity to take part in a local event while exploring the resort's western seafront.

Spectators can also head towards the promenade to enjoy the atmosphere as the runners make their way around the course.

With the race taking place this weekend, organisers will be looking to attract a strong turnout from Benidorm and the wider Marina Baixa.
