Benidorm is making waves for all the right reasons as a new community-driven initiative is bringing locals and tourists together to keep the city’s beaches sparkling. The “Shore Up Benidorm” project kicked off this weekend, attracting over 200 volunteers eager to make a tangible difference to the environment.

Organised by local environmental group Costa Cleaners, the initiative focuses on reducing plastic waste, protecting marine life, and promoting sustainable tourism. Volunteers of all ages joined forces to collect litter, sort recyclables, and learn practical tips on how to keep Benidorm’s beaches pristine year-round.

Local businesses are backing the project, offering refreshments, equipment, and prizes for participants. Cafés, restaurants, and shops reported seeing increased footfall, showing that environmentally friendly efforts can boost the local economy while benefiting the community.

The initiative also includes educational workshops for children and teenagers, teaching them about the importance of ocean conservation in fun, interactive ways. Local schools plan to integrate these lessons into their curriculum, ensuring the next generation grows up with a strong environmental conscience.

The Mayor praised the project, saying: “It’s wonderful to see the community coming together to protect our beaches, which are a vital part of Benidorm’s identity. This initiative shows that small actions can make a big difference.”

Organisers hope Shore Up Benidorm will become a monthly event, encouraging ongoing community participation and cementing Benidorm’s reputation as a destination that cares for its environment.

With sun, sand, and a strong sense of community, Benidorm is proving that a cleaner beach isn’t just good for the planet—it’s great for the people who call this vibrant city home.
