Benidorm Cracks Down on E-Scooters as More Than 1,100 Fines Are Issued

Benidorm is stepping up its crackdown on electric scooters, with more than 1,100 fines issued since the start of the year.
The town hall has increased warning signs in pedestrian areas reminding e-scooter users that riding in zones where they are not permitted is prohibited.
Police controls are also being increased as authorities target what they describe as one of the most frequent complaints from pedestrians.
Benidorm's Councillor for Public Safety, Jesús Carrobles, said riding scooters in unauthorised areas creates a risk for people walking through the city.
The latest figures show that more than 1,100 sanctions have been issued since January to users of electric scooters and self-propelled mobility chairs.
The council says riding in pedestrian areas is among the most common offences detected by the Local Police.
The additional signs have been installed in areas where the restriction applies, with the council saying this is the second time in less than two years that signage has been reinforced.
The move is particularly relevant to visitors during the busy tourist season, when Benidorm's streets and promenades can become extremely crowded.
Authorities are reminding users that electric scooters cannot simply be ridden wherever pedestrians are walking and that riders must comply with the city's regulations.
The increased enforcement comes as Benidorm continues to deal with the growing use of personal mobility vehicles across the resort.
Visitors using e-scooters are being urged to check the local rules before setting off, particularly around pedestrianised streets and busy public areas.
The message from officials is clear: riders who ignore the restrictions could face a fine.
