Belgian Man Arrested in Benidorm After Police Discover False Number Plates

Police discovered registration plates belonging to different vehicles during a routine check in Benidorm.
A 63-year-old Belgian man was arrested in Benidorm after Local Police discovered that the vehicle he was driving was displaying registration plates belonging to another car.
The arrest followed a routine inspection of a Mercedes carrying foreign registration plates, which reportedly raised suspicions among officers.
Police checked the vehicle's registration details and found that the Belgian plates displayed on the Mercedes were actually registered to a Peugeot.
Officers then searched the vehicle and discovered another set of registration plates hidden in the boot.
Those plates were Dutch and reportedly belonged to a BMW.
Driver wanted over alleged drug trafficking
After identifying the driver, officers discovered that he was the subject of an active European Arrest Warrant relating to alleged drug trafficking.
Police subsequently arrested the man.
The vehicle inspection also resulted in two administrative reports being filed over irregularities discovered during the operation.
The arrest was carried out by Benidorm Local Police, with the suspect facing further legal proceedings in relation to the European warrant.
The allegations connected to the warrant have not been determined by a Spanish court.
